FORMING

PTL forming equipment consists of modular components to form, size and create different slab variations.

FORMING ROLLERS

 

  • Forming rollers form a sheet of food product–whether it is muesli/granola, cereal, protein, rice crispie, caramel or confectionery

  • The units’ large-diameter, stainless-steel rollers can be heated or cooled, and there are individual variable-speed and temperature controls as the product requires

  • Units can have manual or optional servo adjustment on slab thickness

  • Automatic weigh-scale feature:  If the servo model is chosen, the slab weight can be controlled by PTL down-line weigh scales – with automatic feedback to the former

  • Adjustable width hoppers can be supplied

SPRINKLERS

 

  • Sprinklers apply coatings of nuts, chocolate chips or similar free-flowing products onto the product slabs, using simple-to-control feeding devices

  • PTL can supply a belt-type sprinkler or cavity-roller type sprinkler depending on the application and inclusions

  • The cantilevered design enables the unit to be moved to different sections of the forming area to provide flexibility

PICKERS

 

  • The picker is mounted after the feeder sprinkler on top of the forming table

  • It is used to mix dry ingredients (chocolate chips) that have been sprinkled on top of the slab into the slab using pins with gaps

  • This is effective when chocolate chips can’t be part of the initial mix as they would melt

SIZING ROLLERS

 

  • Sizing rollers set the height and compaction of the product after forming

  • The units have manual or optional servo height adjustments

  • They are available in stainless steel and HDPE depending on application and preference

  • In addition to smooth rollers, various profile shapes can be achieve

LAYERING ROLLERS

 

  • Layering rollers apply layers of caramel, fruit paste or similar product onto  product slabs in a controlled manner

  • They are designed to produce layers in either direction, i.e. roller side up or down

  • The rollers enable highly accurate adjustments of sheet thickness

  • They can be easily mounted over existing lines. The cooling drum has an inlet and an outlet for temperature controlled cooling glycol

SANDWICH SYSTEMS

 

  • The sandwich system consists of former, wedge bed and sizing roller(s)

  • The forming roller forms a sheet of food product—whether it is muesli/granola, cereal, protein, rice-crispie, caramel or confectionery

  • The units’ large-diameter stainless steel rollers can be heated or cooled, and there are individual variable-speed and temperature controls as the product requires

  • Units can have manual or optional servo adjustment on slab thickness

  • As the slab reaches the out-feed end of the wedge bed, it is automatically placed on to the top of the preformed slab.

  • The preformed slab may have a topping applied prior to the sandwich system, for example, caramel, with nuts, chips and chocolate chips, or as required

  • Once formed, the result is a complex slab that can have numerous layers, flavours and textures

COOLING TUNNELS – WASHDOWN

 

  • Cooling tunnels are constructed in stainless steel for durability, cleaning and hygiene purposes

  • Tunnels meet the latest standards in hygienic design, ensuring fast, simple and thorough cleaning throughout all areas of the tunnels From the hoods, beds, drive and evaporator sections, all areas can be accessed, cleaned and dried easily

  • In recent years the industry has seen a rise in allergen cases and an elevation in allergen regulations. PTL’s design focuses on eliminating areas where product and allergens can accumulate – by sealing areas, making items removable and/or enabling all parts of the tunnel to be washed. At the same time, PTL machinery provides optimal cooling efficiency to ensure that control and maximum production are achieved

  • Cooling tunnels are used to cool chocolate and compound, bar slabs, cookies and other food products

  • They have separate top and bottom cooling zones, with air cooling or glycol cool beds for more intense under-belt cooling

  • A variety of profile setups can be achieved,depending on the product beingprocessed and the heat loads
  • Tunnels are equipped with lift-up hoods (on both sides, depending on width) enabling easy access for cleaning
  • The evaporator is under-belt, hermetically sealed and washdown
  • There is a robust tracking system
  • PTL cooling tunnels can come with belt washers that in many cases clean the belt continually during production, meaning you can start and finish production with a clean belt and drive section

BELT WASHERS

 

  • Belt washers can run continually whilst the line is in operation, or during wash-down periods, to wash and dry production belts, thus maximising production

  • The PTL belt washer uses rotating flap scrubbers for controlled scrubbing pressure. This can easily be set from gentle to firm

  • Cooling tunnel drive sections have an area designed to fit PTL belt washers for trouble-free running with constantly cleaned belts

  • The PTL belt washer can be removed easily on wheels’ with no tools

  • It can then be dismantled and easily cleaned to meet hygiene standards

CUTTING

 

PTL cutting systems consist of modular components to slit, spread and guillotine bars to length, whilst minimising/eliminating waste/changeover times.

SLITTERS

 

  • The PTL slitter design enables a  quick and easy changeover of the slitter head, anvil and other parts when changing from one bar-pitch to another, meaning downtime is reduced. This process can be completed safely, easily and quickly by one operator using the built-in changeover mechanism – in less than 10 minutes

  • Slitters are used to cut product slabs longitudinally into ropes

  • We can offer slit on anvil or slit on belt – or a high-spec unit that can be changed from one to the other with change parts

  • Slitter blades can be temperature controlled to reduce product build-up

  • Slitters can be equipped with ‘live slab tracking’ to reduce, control and even
    eliminate edge trim

LANE SPREADERS

 

  • PTL lane spreaders are endless polyolefin belts that accurately separate product
    laterally one to another after slitting

  • Owing to the polyolefin coating and the clean design, the unit is extremely easy to clean and has full wash-down capability

  • It is designed to reduce build-up, wear and maintenance and facilitate ease of use when changing bar widths

  • Fast-change parts are available with the removable head design and common
    base frame and drive

ULTRASONIC GUILLOTINE

 

  • The ‘U series’ guillotines use ultrasonics to stop product sticking to the blade. The resulting cuts are clean, accurate and consistent, providing downstream equipment with organised product rows

  • They are used to cut preformed ropes to lengths as required

  • Removable belt carriages enable thorough cleaning, fast changeover and simple maintenance

  • They are used to cut preformed ropes to lengths as required

ENROBING

PTL has focused the enrober design on end-product accuracy, fast cleaning and changeovers and accurate temperature control.

ENROBERS

 

  • The PTL enrobers are designed for medium to  large-scale production and widths are customisable to your needs.

  • Designed following the GMA sanitary design guidelines

  • A unique feature is the ability to remove the complete carriage from the enrober onto a wash-down trolley, without the use of tools; it can then be thoroughly cleaned, greatly reducing downtime

  • The pump and filter system can also be removed with no tools

  • Enrobers can fully coat or bottom-coat only, and decorate a variety of products

  • The complete tank/pump and water jacketed pipe lines can also be easily removed and replaced with no tools

MELTING

A unique feature of PTL melters is their flexibility and wash down capability, enabling users to go from one product to another quickly and easily – maximising production.

  • PTL melters melt chocolate, compound, liquor, butter and fats
  • Used to melt blocks and – using a special device – melt buttons and chips thoroughly, all at high speeds
  • Self-contained heating systems, meaning they can be transported on castors
  • If preferred, we can use your existing hot-water system as the heating source
  • The bottom tank with its own heating system can be used as a storage and delivery tank for the next process i.e. it can be used to deliver directly to a temperer/enrober with a ring mains delivery to the use point, and a return line to a melter tank
  • The melters have removable melt grids for fast and simple cleaning and changeovers. This means you can process different masses on the same piece of equipment with minimal downtime
  • Double head units are available for higher melt capacity or can have a centre division for melting two different products

SIEVE SYSTEMS

 

  • Necessary when products (e.g. granola bars or cookies) being enrobed release particulates into the enrober and cause blockage issues

  • Melter delivery pump transfers coating to the enrober

  • Coating is removed at a percentage of coating use rate, then pumped through a vibratory sieve and returned back into the melter tank or use tank for re-use.
